AUSTRALIAN MINIATURE GOAT- BREED SPECIFIC REGISTRATION RULES

An animal is NOT registered unless the certificate has been or is being issued. A completed registration application does not guarantee that the application will be accepted.

ELIGIBILITY: The Australian Miniature Goat is a height breed. February 2000:- Any purebred or crossbred goat meeting the height requirements is eligible to enter the breed and be used in the production of the Australian Miniature Goat. (PUREBRED ANGORA, BOER, KALAHARI, CASHMERE, BUSH GOAT, DAIRY BREEDS ETC AND CROSSES FREE FROM DISQUALIFYING MINIATURE GOAT BREED FAULTS can enter the register as Australian Miniature Goats when they meet height and grade D requirements. These adults can also have parents/grandparents registered if they also meet height and registrations requirements and pedigrees can be used to grade up.
AUSTRALIAN MINIATURES WITH NIGERIAN AND PYGMY BLOOD
Animal 12.5% and under Nigerian Dwarf/Pygmy blood will be recognised as registered as Australian Miniature Goats on registration certificates.  Animals over 12.5% Nigerian Dwarf or Pygmy blood will be recognised and registered to the appropriate breed as proven by DNA.

DISQUALIFYING BREED FAULTS (animals can not be registered) Overshot or undershot jaw visible, more than 1cm (10mm), Obviously crooked face, Hermaphrodism (both male & female), Monorchid/cryptorchid (retained testicle/s)
OVER HEIGHT ANIMALS:
Can be recorded into the database as reference animals if not registered stock. Animal that are registered and measure in over 63.5cm will be listed as OH.

Until the age of 3 years an animal will be Registered as a Miniature Bred Goat. As a three year old, a Registered Miniature Bred Goat is eligible to have an application submitted to upgrade to an Adult Australian Miniature Goat. During this registration process, the animal is allocated a Grade based on the animal's parentage and the animal's 3 Year Height.

YOUNG GOATS (under 3 years) FROM REGISTERED MGBA MINIATURE GOAT STOCK:
Animals from MGBA registered Australian Miniature Goat stock can be registered to their parents.

YOUNG GOATS (under 3 years) FROM MINIATURE GOAT STOCK REGISTERED ELSEWHERE:

YOUNG GOATS (under 3 years) ENTERING THE BREED:
1. Young animals that have no registered miniature parents and are under the age of 3 years cannot be registered until they are 3 years of age and adult height is known.
2. Young animals that have small 3 year and over parents that meet height/grade registration requirements can have parents registered and young animals (offspring) can be graded up using these parents and/or grandparents pedigree as proven miniature height and enter the breed as young animals and registered Australian Miniature bred breeding stock.

FUTURE MEASUREMENTS: Animals should be measured at 1yr and 2yrs of age. It is not compulsory for Owners/Breeders to submit 1yr, 2yr or 4yr height measurements, however special circumstances application may only apply to animals with 1yr and 2 yr heights registered as well as upgrade discounts applying. To Submit 1yr, 2yr or 4yr heights to the office is FREE. Please Email or Phone your Heights through with your animal's name and Registration Number. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A NEW CERTIFICATE FOR 1 AND 2 YEAR UPGRADES. Please pencil heights into your height boxes on your certificate. If you prefer to have a new certificate with heights listed you can print one from Premium Breed. New certificates will be issued at 3 year height upgrade.

The animal must be in clear view, side on and preferably with head turned toward camera. The photograph must show the whole animal including feet. The animal must be clean, and must look well fed (in good condition).
Goats are not to have adornments that impede the overall image of the goat. Photos should be on the goat to be registered only. All photos must be recent.

Printed photos must have the animals name printed on the back and should be attached to the correct application. Emailed photos should be correctly named OR sent, one per email with name of goat in subject line.
Photos are for Registration Certificate and may be used in the Studbook, so poor quality shots will not be accepted. Any application for registration that is sent in with an incorrect photo will be returned and a reprocessing fee may be applied.










ADULT GOATS (3 yrs and over) NOT PREVIOUS REGISTERED

February 2000:- Any adult purebred or crossbred goat meeting the height requirements is eligible to enter the breed and be used in the production of the Australian Miniature Goat. *Purebred goats can continued to work through the grades if they meet height requirments.
For animals over 3 years that have not been previously registered. Registered MGBA breeders holding current ordinary membership may register animals of unknown/unregistered backgrounds. Animals registered elsewhere and not previously recorded with MGBA/AMGR may also be registered (parentage must be verified, DNA may be required).

PHOTO REQUIRMENT

ADULTS:- NOT PREVIOUSLY RECORDED/REGISTERED WITH AMGR/MGBA
Adult Registration (*animals not previously recorded) will need seven photos. Please reduce all photo sizes before sending via Email. 500 X 500 Pixels ( 5cm X 5cm )

2. Right side facing camera
3. Front on facing camera
4. Rear view
5. Teeth
6. Ear Tag PIC side
7. Ear Tag Individual Number side

Photos are used for classification purposes, breed type characteristics (ear length & structure), disqualifying faults, aging (teeth) and animal identification (ear tag). Photos must be clear, animal must be standing squarely, must be clean, teeth and tags must be clearly visible.

GOATS REGISTERED WITH OTHER GROUPS - Not previously registered with MGBA

To register an animals with the MGBA that has already been registered elsewhere, you will need to attach a copy of the relevant registration certificate/s for recording pedigree information to your application.
You must be listed as the registered owner of the animal or have a signed transfer of ownership, bill of sale or other such documentation that clearly lists the animals name and identification (ear tag, microchip, DNA, tattoo).The information utilized from copies of the certificates other than those of MGBA is accepted at face value. Pedigree will not be used for grading purposes unless the animal listed is height verified by a committee approved MGBA measurer and the animal can correctly be identified. Need DNA ?

You can request DNA kits directly and the DNA processing Application form is available on their website (OR MGBA version below can be used). Just click on the goat picture and your there. http://www.animal-genetics.lab.uq.edu.au
The cost per animal is $38.50 ( $35.00 plus GST $3.50 ) Hair sample (root on) for DNA profiling. Please check their website for updated price changes as they occur.
The LAB processes DNA 4x per year ( January, May, August and October ) and processing takes place in the last full week of those months. The Lab will hold your DNA material until processing time.When the Lab has processed your DNA they will send you an invoice and once payment has been received they will send you your results with individual PDF certificates for each animal via email.
